After a full breakfast at
Restaurant Evangeline in Chéticamp and a thorough car washing, we headed back to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and the Cabot Trail for the 105 km scenic drive from Chéticamp to Ingonish Beach and the Keltic Lodge at the Highlands.
Along the way, we stopped at some overlooks (where I sat in a Parks Canada red chair, better to enjoy the view), hiked the popular Skyline trail, which leads to a dramatic headland overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence (see photo below), hiked the very short Bog trail, where we could hear the green frogs croaking for mates, and stopped for a lobster roll lunch at the Rusty Anchor.
After lunch, we checked out a replica of a Scottish crofter's hut on the Lone Shieling trail. A shieling (hut) sheltered the crofter (tenant farmer) and often some of his livestock on the western highlands of Scotland. Afterwards, on the way to the Keltic Lodge, we detoured to the White Point harbor.
